Dynamic, creative and flexible individuals are wanted for the Montessori School of Northampton’s Summer Programs 2008. As Lead Teacher you will be in charge of designing and implementing curriculum for our eight week program, which is broken down into four 2 week sessions: Bugs & Bark; Rocks, Rivers & Dinosaurs; the Human Body; and Ocean Adventures. Your responsibilities will include creating classroom materials and activities for each theme-oriented session, supervising Assistant Teachers, and reporting to the Summer Program Coordinator. We seek teachers who can present curriculum that is compatible to Montessori education while acting as ambassadors for Montessori philosophy to families outside our school year community. Description:

The Cambridge Public Schools Montessori program, which began in September 2007, is housed in the Tobin School building with a multi-aged, multi-graded, heterogeneous group of students aged 3 to 6 years old.  The program is a half-day for 3 year olds and full day for others. The aim of Montessori education is to foster competent, responsible, adaptive learners who are life long learners and problem solvers.   Montessori classrooms are supplied with a diverse set of materials and teaching equipment, which is, designed to foster physical, intellectual, creative and social independence.  The classroom atmosphere encourages social interaction for cooperative learning, peer teaching and emotional development.  Learning occurs in an inquiring, cooperative, nurturing atmosphere, where students increase their own knowledge through self-initiated experiences. The next level of this program, Elementary 1, will begin in September 2008. The Montessori 6-9 teacher will report to the Principal and is responsible for the planning and implementation of curriculum based on the Massachusetts state frameworks and the American Montessori Society curriculum. The teacher will provide a high quality educational program with emphasis on math, literacy, science, and social studies. The teacher will work closely and collaboratively with Primary team members, the Montessori Resource specialist, special needs teachers, and other support personnel.

Job Summary
Kingsley employs Head Teachers and Assistant Teachers in the Early Childhood Division (Toddler and Preschool) and co-Head Teachers in all Elementary programs.  Head/Co-Teachers are responsible for all aspects of their students’ classroom experience, as well as for partnerships with parents, professional and personal growth, collegiality, and administrative duties.  All teachers attend regular meetings, observe, advise, and serve as a mentor and role model to other faculty in Montessori methodology, curriculum management, classroom schedules, record keeping, student needs and the classroom environment. THE CLASSROOM
