A Banner Year!
While the year 2010-2011 school year brought many challenges to schools, the Montessori Schools of Massachusetts has maintained a steady course of advocacy and viability for Montessori in the state and member service improvements. We are aware that these are trying times for many of our schools and most of these improvements were done at no additional cost to members! These new member benefits were initiated with satisfying results and the promise of continued success.
MSM started the year by publishing an ad in Boston Magazine, which created increased visibility for all our member schools at no additional cost to members. The ad included an article about the Montessori Method which we used as a platform to educate the public about all the advantages that our schools have to offer families.
With so much changing on our state's bullying regulations, we worked to create an Anti-Bullying Template for all MSM member schools. This template was professionally created and legally reviewed at no additional cost to member schools and could be personalized to fit individual communities needs.
Our yearly Heads of School Luncheon yielded great interest in how to bring our schools marketing plans into the 21st Century by using social media in a responsible and beneficial way. As a result, we offered a Social Media Bootcamp for schools where they could continue the learning process started at the HOS Luncheon. Keeping up with marketing trends and paying for advertising can be costly, which is why we also started posting member Open Houses on our website this year.
Our Annual Conference at the Tobin School in Cambridge, MA was a huge success. This conference offers high quality keynotes and workshops – for teachers and administrators – close to home and at a reasonable price. We also introduced the ability to register and pay for the conference online and using a credit card. We look forward to the 2012 conference and will be publishing the date and location soon!
This year, we changed how we award teacher education scholarships in an effort to best help new teachers to be able to attend training without the worry of finances. We have also renamed the teacher education scholarships to the Gail Supanich Memorial Scholarship on honor of our beloved board member and dedicated Montessori leader who passed away this year.
I look forward to what we will be able to do for members during the 2011-2012 school year! I welcome suggestions on how we can better serve our member schools. Enjoy your summer and make sure to watch for your membership renewal information in July.

Mission
The mission of the Montessori Schools of Massachusetts is to promote
knowledge and understanding of the Montessori methods of education in
Massachusetts and to provide a framework for communication and
cooperation among Montessori schools within Massachusetts and other New
England states, and between these school and other private and public
schools, government agencies and organizations concerned with
education.
Organization
MSM was first organized in 1986 by a group of Montessori teachers and
administrators interested in creating a regional Montessori network.
MSM's board of Directors is a volunteer group of administrators from
member schools who meet bi-monthly to plan MSM events and manage the
organization. MSM hosts an annual Head of School Networking meeting
each fall, which the Head of all member schools is invited to attend.
If you are interested in becoming more involved with the board contact
a board member for information. Meeting dates are posted in advance on
this website in the "Highlights and Happennings" section.
