Department: Teaching Staff Reports To: Head of School FLSA Status: Exempt Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Grade Levels Served: Kindergarten – 8th Grade Position Summary: The Naturalist is responsible for designing and leading a nature-based education program for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. This position supports Oak Meadow Montessori School’s mission by integrating outdoor learning into the broader curriculum, utilizing the school’s campus and nearby conservation land. The Naturalist will spend approximately 60%–75% of instructional time outdoors with students, fostering environmental literacy, scientific inquiry, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Outdoor Education, Environmental Science, or a related field Experience teaching or leading groups of children in outdoor settings (school, camp, nature center, etc.) Competency and enthusiasm for year-round outdoor instruction, including in cold and wet conditions Strong classroom management and student engagement skills in outdoor environments Ability to collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff Preferred: Familiarity with Montessori philosophy and practices Wilderness First Aid or comparable certification (or willingness to obtain)
